Be the next Eratosthenes
Be The Next Eratosthenes And The Youngest Earth Scientist From School
ACHIEVERS - batch 2020
Today with the help of satellites, we all have a pretty good idea about how big the Earth is, compared to us. But can you imagine how difficult it was, 2200 years ago when there were no satellites and advanced instruments to help us?.
But a greek Astronomer, Eratosthenes, was able to measure the circumference of Earth, 2200 years ago, using simple science. His calculation was very much close to the exact circumference of Earth. So we are conducting an online event based on the experiment of Eratosthenes.
The participants will get to know how complicated science can be mastered with simple mathematical calculations. The theme of the event will be the Eratosthenes experiment of Earth’s circumference measurement.
We will also include other activities and model making, related to the study of time and Sun, for example, the working sundial prototype with craft material and Sunrise at Stonehenge.
